J.D. Edwards Canada and IBM Canada Join Forces
Last week J.D. Edwards Canada Ltd. and IBM Canada Ltd. inked a deal to provide an application hosting initiative to Canada called JDe.sourcing.
This marks the first time that J.D. Edwards Canada Ltd. will deliver its applications via the Web as an ASP in a new delivery mode with IBM. The company chose IBM Global Services to host its enterprise applications in IBM's Web hosting facilities, providing customers with the ability to access their J.D. Edwards applications on the Internet.
"The customer is the big winner here," Robert Beauchemin, vice president and general manager, said. "In a hosted model, companies can be up and running quickly on world-class technologies, and in business where change is constant, that can be a true competitive edge. Working with the right application solutions partner empowers the customer to adopt new technologies more rapidly than possible in most in-house environments, making faster time to market a reality."
"Through this agreement, small to mid-size companies will now have access to world class applications from J.D. Edwards without making substantial investments in IT infrastructure," Alan Blanchette, global services ASP executive, IBM Canada.
Blanchette also said the agreement is a natural evolution of a strong relationship between the two companies, especially with IBM Canada's long history and success in providing Canadian companies with robust enterprise software solutions.
According to the company, JDe.sourcing is tailored to meet the needs of today's fast growth companies, making it easier for companies to get to market faster by adopting new technologies to reach the entire supply chain using J.D. Edwards' integrated e-business, front office and advanced planning and scheduled functionality.
J.D. Edwards' core and supplemental technologies can be integrated, customized and maintained by J.D. Edwards using the direct model, or by its ASP partners using the existing indirect model. Either can be delivered over the Web through the ActivEra Portal.
"JDe.sourcing capitalizes on our biggest competitive strength-the inherent flexible nature of our software, and now we've added flexibility to the delivery of our software as well," Beauchemin said. "For the first time, customers can access their J.D. Edwards software anytime, anywhere using nearly any access technology."
